Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I think my 88 year old mother has some form of dementia. The symptoms have been increasing over the past 2 years. Her short term memory is increasingly worse, she complains that she cannot see right even though the eye dr. says her glasses are correct, she can hardly walk and when she does she shuffles. She has some significant swelling of the feet and legs and complains that her legs just won t work She did have an MRI that indicated moderate atrophy but her family physician had very little to say about that result. I think he does not have the full picture and I want to help have a better idea of what is happening. I am her health surrogate and she has given permission for me to access her records. I don t think she and my father provide enough information when they go for appointments, hence I don t think he has the complete picture. Is it appropriate for me to make an appointment with her physician to provide a fuller picture of what is going on?
The swelling in legs indicates possible low protein levels, cardiac cause or other issues. Should consult with all details of the reports for best guidelines.
