What Does Swelling In The Nostril Indicate?

I thought my right nostril was blocked. I tries blowing my nose but couldn't clear it. When I felt up the nostril with a finger, I thought I could feel a ball of mucus. I tried to clear it and realised it was a soft swelling. It burst and released a pinky orange fluid. Just want to know what it was and if there's anything I need to do following its burst.

Hello,

You have symptoms of swelling in the nostril which is due to the irritated lining of nostrils and could be due to staphylococcus bacteria infection which is the common organism to cause bump inside the nose.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you maintain complete hygiene of the nasal cavity. For now, take Benadryl twice a day, apply cold compresses on the nose and take steam. Consult ENT specialist for proper examination. The doctor may order nasal endoscopy, blood tests, and x-ray to rule out conditions like a nasal polyp. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ), antihistamine and may recommend surgery in case of nasal polyp.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
