Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My tounge has swelled in the past but stoped, this last week it just started up again. I started using a nasal spray Ocean saline nasal spray that I noticed is outdated 2012 other than that I don’t know what could have triggered this. What are your thoughts?
Well, swelling of tongue that comes and goes is most commonly due to allergic reaction. The allergic reaction can be due to any foods, medicines [if you take any], any environmental allergen, bug bites etc.
In case if the swelling is permanent then it can be due to other causes like Amyloidosis, thyroid problems etc.
But your symptoms looks like allergic reaction.
As the similar happened in the past also, I would suggest you to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and an allergy test can be done to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms. If the swelling is present right now you can take anti allergic like Benadryl to reduce the swelling
Hope this helps.
Regards.
