What Does Swelling On Ankle Indicate?

I have a little swelling on the outside of my left ankle, it feels like fluid. I have NOT recently injured my ankle. BUT my left foot bones on the outside of my left foot have been hurting randomly for the past 2 weeks. I am slightly overweight. What could this be?

It looks to me like a bursa over the lateral malleolus to me, so get examined by an orthopaedic surgeon with Xray and take correct advice, difficult to suggest without seeing you personally. Don't neglect, reduce your weight also
