What Does Swelling On The Face After An Injury Indicate?

I am a 55 year old male. I took a hard knee to the upper jaw and temple during a family football game on the beach at about 5 PM. The side of my face is swollen and my nose bleed periodically. I am in a remote area, and the closest ER is about an hour away. I have a headache, and my jaw , checkbook and temple hurt.. but I do not have any of the other brain bleed symptoms. I am trying to decide if I should make the treck to the ER for a CT ... what do you think ?

Hi and welcome to HCM!

Thanks for your question

Your history has been noted. Swelling following an injury is common due to inflammation or hairline fracture. Take analgesics like TAB Combiflam 1-0-1, apply ice packs. If pain and swelling does not subside within 12hrs consult a doctor and get an X-ray or CT scan done.

Hope this helps.

Take care
