What Does Swelling Under The Left Eye And Jaw Indicate?

I was hit the face 5 days ago. Under my left eye became swollen and very badly bruised. And have swelling throughout my entire left cheek and jaw area. I feel numbness in my left nostril and along the top part of my jaw inside my mouth. And if I blow my nose(very runny) the pain I feel inside of my left nostril is excrutiating. Is this severe or an emergency?

Hi

Greetings from HealthcareMagic!

Very unfortunate thing to hear hit on the face. Eye is a very sensitive area and jaw & cheeks area is fully merged with blood vessels. Nostril bones are also very soft. So we should not neglect. Your eye is swollen and bruise may be due to inflammation. Swelling of cheek and jaw means we can suspect some hairline fracture. Pain in left nostril may be due to internal injury. No need to worry, but swelling is sustained since 5 days. So better to go for the following investigations:
1. Eyes can be examined by OPHTHALMOSCOPE by your doctor by which you can know whether there are any inflammatory changes in your left eye.
2. X-RAY PARANASAL SINUSES by which you can know any signs of hairline fracture inside nose.

May not be severe, may not be emergency, but better not to take risk in this type of situations. You can come back to us with your reports so that we can guide you with better way of treatment.
For immediate relief you can take any anti-inflammatory drug and apply Diclofenac ointment.

Take Care!
