What Does Tenderness On The Left Side Of The Neck Indicate?

over the past week, I have had left sided neck tenderness, I feel some tightness and it is sore, like if you slept wrong. Getting more discomfort. and I also noticed my ear on the left side is hot and bright red. I DID have a pretty good fall, about two weeks ago and hit my head, but didn t think I hurt anything. Not sure if this is related, However, I am Worried it is Lymph nodes. I am a smoker of many years, and also take weekly injections of Humera for Arthritis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Enlarged lymph nodes can cause pain but this would usually also present with lumps in the affected area. You would be able to feel the lymph nodes.
Even if they are enlarged, they may be responding to the changes in the ear.

The redness and increased warmth of the ear may indicate an infection.
You may need a course of antibiotics, it would be best to be assessed.

I hope this helps
