hi i have been having very low left abdominal pain, went to the er and had a contrast catscan which showed a small ovarian cyst on my left ovary (1.3 cm) but nothing else. it has been 10 days and the discomfort is still there and i feel it in my lower back left side and also up near my left ribs and hip. sometimes i feeling pulling in my left side. my period is now 5 days late and i am stressing out. pregnancy test was negative. no blood in stools, no diarrhea no fever. im loosing my mind with anxiety and i am patiently waiting for another doctor visit tomorrow.
Most of the small ovarian cysts are harmless and some of these disappear by themselves in time. Most of the ovarian cysts can be safely treated with hormonal birth pills which regulate the hormones and reduce the risk of more cysts. Pain and discomfort may be managed by analgesics or tranquillizers. Rarely a cyst may be removed by surgery. Very rarely an ovarian cyst (Not a small one like this) may rupture causing a lot of vaginal bleeding, pain, symptoms of fainting and dizziness. In these cases, emergency removal of the cyst or the ovary may have to be done.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
