What Does The ECG Of A 67-year-old Indicate?

My dad had mild heart attract once before 7 years and the doctor examined that there is a single block .After that he is under medication and he is very healthy.During yesterday s check up the doctor said his heart is working 50 percent What does this mean ?But in last year s check up it was 60 percent working ,he is a diabetic patient for 25years and his sugar level is under control.I just want to know what is that heart is working 50percent means? His age is 67.

Hello,

A normal working of heart ranges from 55% to 70%. 65%, for example, means that 65% of the total amount of blood in the heart is pumped out with each heartbeat.

Since your dad had an episode of heart attack, it can cause a reduction in normal pumping of heart and 50% is still good enough to perform daily routine activities.

My advice is to take all the precautions as per your doctor's advice for future safety and take medications given to your dad regularly. Keep his regular followup with the doctor.
