my wife just had a long overdue check up and the TSH was determined to be 14.95. She is 62, healty, a little overweight, a little tired at times but overall is energetic and happy. I question the results of this test and want to be certian before the Dr. starts prescribing pills or whatever. How could TSH be so high other than a erroneous test??
TSH STANDS FOR THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE. IF THYROID IS NOT FUNCTIONING WELL AND NOT SECRETING ENOUGH HORMONES NAMELY T3, T4 THEN TSH IS PRODUCED TO STIMULATE IT. YOUR WIFE MAY BE HAVING HYPOTHYROIDISM IN WHICH CASE HER TSH IS HIGH AND IF YOU CORELATE WITH T3 AND T4 HORMONE LEVELS THEY SHOULD BE LOW. YOU MAY REPEAT HER THYROID PROFILE AND CONSULT AN ENDOCRINOLOGIST
