What Does The Below Report Indicate?

My Mother just had an Echocardiogram and on the results it says she has the ejection fraction is 55-60% Left ventricular filling pattern c/w diastiolic dysunction. There is moderate concentric hypertrophy. slightly dialated left atrium. There is aortic scierosis. the aortic valve is calcified there is mild tricuspid regurgitation and mildly increased PASP. Could you explain this for me?

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The report says that there is a problem with your mothers aortic valve which is obstructing forward flow from the left side of her heart. The ECHO is not commenting about the difference in pressure across the valve which helps in finding about the severity of obstruction to forward flow. Because of this aortic valve stenosis there is back pressure in the other chambers of her heart which is causing the left sided atrium to enlarge.

There is problem with filling of heart also which is mentioned as diastolic dysfunction. But at this time her heart is pumping adequate volume which is mentioned as the normal ejection fraction. But if the condition continues there can be problem with ejection of heart also. Hence consult a cardiologist and do angiographic evaluation and if required a valve replacement. The ECHO finding you have mentioned is incomplete. I have tried to explain the maximum with whatever information you have provided.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
