Recent blood work showed a test CKD-EPI . with BUN/CREATNIN RATIO of 24. As a retired nurse receiving results in the mail over the weekend, I know just enough to freak me out & my DR. is in surgery tomorrow. I am not sure why the test was performed as I am a tee totaler. Any way you could answer on a purely....... professional basis ? Not to diagnose just shed some light on the ratio information.
Hi i did review your.concern. The bun/ creat ratio is important in a setting. Of acute renal failure, where it helps determine whether cause is prerenal or intrarenal.when bun/ creat is > 20 it usually means kidney is doing fine as creat is getting rid of compared to bun, however when kidney stops functioning, creat excretion goes down and serum value rises so bun:creatI hope this helps Wish you all d best.
