What Does The Bump Where A Tooth Came Out Indicate?

My loose tooth came out yesterday. It fell out, my gums bled, like usual. It was late at night so all I did was just put some gauze to soak up the blood. I noticed a small tender bump right where the tooth came out. I didn't worry about it and the next day when I ate it hurt pretty bad, because of this little bump. What is it?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a bump in place from where tooth came out can be a hematoma that might have formed due to rupture of any blood vessel post removal of tooth..

Secondly if the tooth was infected it can also be a granuloma or abscess..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and an x ray can also be done to check for any left over root piece while any infection or pus formation can also be checked for..

As of now you can apply Lignocaine over it to relieve pain..
Take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
Do warm saline gargles..
Avoid chewing from that side and chew from opposite side..

Once the diagnosis is confirmed the dentist can advise you to take a course of antibiotics and painkillers if there is only infection and can also irrigate the extraction socket with antiseptic solution like betadine..
If there is any left over root piece then removing the same will be done followed by a course of antibiotics and painkillers..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
