The interpretation of urethral swab is as follows: Epithelial cells are normal lining cells in the urethra. Thus, presence of epithelial cells is normal finding. Presence of pus cells suggests presence of infection most probably bacterial infection. Isolation of Staphylococcus aureus on culture confirms presence of bacterial infection. A number of antibiotics are effective against Staphylococcus aureus. A drug sensitivity can be done for various antibiotics which will identify the most effective antibiotic. Consult your primary health care provider for prescription or drug sensitivity of antibiotic.
