Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father has liver cirrhosis and his endoscopy report says DIAGNOSIS: Grade 1 n 2 oesophageal varices. He used to drinks almost daily basis but stopped immediately since the day he was aware about his disease. My concern here is he is 59 years and how long his life expectancy could be if proper medication done on daily basis. One more concern he often falls unconcious for days and later recovers himself yes offcourse with the help of proper medication but i want to know is there a way we can prevent his unconciousness.
You should know that the main treatment at this stage are diuretics and herbal supplements (silymarin) for the liver regeneration. It is also important performing an EEG and monitoring ammonium plasma levels in order to exclude possible liver encephalopathy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
