What Does The Fecal Fat Test Of An 80-year-old Male Indicate?
My 80 yr-old husband has too much stool. He is also doubly incontinent. Once or twice a day he will give off round stool the size of a small grapefruit. He did a fecal fat test. He apparently has malnutrition -- the fat content in his stool tested at 3 +. What is causing him to produce so much stool and what can be done about it?

Presence of fat in stool is likely to be due to malabsorption of fat and loss of fat in stools. The cause of malnutrition needs to be found out and hence its treatment.
