Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor My Detailed CBC report: RBC 3.19 Hgb 5.5 PCV 20.4% MCV 63.9 MCH 17.2 MCHC 27 All these are below the avg level leading to low hgb.. We are taking fruit juice(beet and Other iron rich)full of iron every day and nothing has affected much.. Please specify how to increase MCV and PCV in my blood..
Based on the history and the CBC report you seem to be suffering from severe iron deficiency anemia.
Iron rich fruit juices may not be effective in correcting the anemia. Since your hemoglobin is too low (5.5 g/dL) you need to take iron therapy in the form iron dextran or iron sucrose or ferric carboxymaltose injections for the effective treatment of anemia which will be reflected in the form of increased hemoglobin, MCV, PCV, etc.
Beside, every effort should be made to find out the underlying cause such as bleeding by doing stool analysis, endoscopic examination of intestines, prolonged menstrual bleeding (if you are female) etc, and it should be corrected so the deficiency does not recur.
In view of the above you are advised to consult a physician for proper evaluation, treatment and follow up.
Hope this will help.
