Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother s ct scan showed: Innumerable bilateral less than 4 mm pulmonary nodules; moderate bronchiectasis with mild emphysematous change; no gross adenopathy, however evaluation of the mediastinum and soft tissues are limited without IV contrast; mild cardiomegaly; no effusion She is 95 and without complaints, but is on oxygen. Has had a stroke and heart problems, so as her medical surrogate, do not plan surgery in her future. What is bronchiectasis?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Bronchiectasies are dilatation of bronchi which is caused by weakaned bronchi wall. This is seen in chronic bronchitis, smokers or after pneumonia. Also, she has emhysematous changes which are also signs of smoking and these indicate destruction of alveolis. This is not something critical and in her age it doesnt require specific treatment. She can have aminofilin inhalators if there are symptoms of dyspnea.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health. DR. Ivan Rommstein
