What Does The Following CT Scan Report Suggest?

I m 58. I had a terrible migraine headache one day and went to the ER. The doctor ordered a CT scan. The results sent me into a major bout of anxiety that I m still struggling to control. He said I had brain lesions, mild chronic ischemic small blood vessel disease and a calcified tumor. Here are my questions- 1. When someone has this and it s still mild, is it possible to stop the progression by loosing weight, not smoking, keeping cholesterol and glucose and blood pressure in check? I understand if left uncheck it will progress but I m confused when the term progressive is used and if that means it will progress regardless or if progression can be stopped if the underlying cause is eliminated. 2. I also understand the word chronic means reoccurring.. is it because it s chronic that it progresses? And again if the underlying cause is corrected will it no longer be chronic and no longer progress? 3. Can migraines be considered a chronic thing since I ve gotten them my entire adult life? 3. Does this disease ever recede and do folks ever show no signs of progression on future CT scans or MRI s. As you can see, My goal is to prevent progression. 4. How do radiologist determine if it s chronic or if was single event that caused it and can a reoccurring event like a migraine be considered chronic (sorry, for asking that question twice) 5. My doctor is sending me for an MRI with and without contrast. So far, I ve only had the CT scan in the ER at the hospital. Thank you and I apologize for repeating some things.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The CT scan shows presence of multiple brain lesions which correspond to chronic ischemic small blood vessel disease. This can occur due to hypertension. In case you are hypertensive, it is advisable to control the hypertension with life style modification and medication.

The term progressive is used since, the condition may progress if the underlying condition is not checked. Maintaining ideal body weight, quitting smoking, keeping cholesterol in control will all help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
