Hello,
He experienced a period of time when not enough
oxygen was getting to his brain. This is called
hypoxia. Mild hypoxia is fairly common in newborn infants.
The seizures he had were the result of
hypoglycemia (
low blood sugar). His low blood sugar was quickly corrected by the neonatologists in the NICU.
There were some irregularities on the first EEG and these were due to the effect reduced oxygen had on his brain. The irregularities disappeared by the time the second EEG was done. The EEG had become normal.
This is what happens when the newborn has MILD hypoxia. Babies with mild hypoxia are believed to recover normal brain function completely.
They are not are greater risk for later seizures or learning disabilities.
From what you have shared, it looks like he has an excellent chance of becoming a normal, healthy baby and child.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
