What Does The Following MRI Report Indicate Regarding Chances Of Improvement?

Head MRI of my 68-year-old mother in law reads: Small gliotic areas in subcortical white matter of bilateral fronto-parietal lobes and in posterior periventricular white matter. Her CPK-NAC is 246 and vitamin b12 is 624. She is having terrible walking difficulty with balance problems, drooling, speaking difficulty, and frequent falls. Can her condition be improved. Please guide.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The MRI scan brain report shows that there are parts in the brain with small areas if reduced blood supply leading to replacement of the nerve cells in these areas with fluid. This is an irreversible process and the affected areas cannot be regenerated with medications. However, hope lies in maintaining adequate intake of vitamins and doing neurological rehabilitation. This can help restore some functions which are lost and improve the brain networks. Any improvement might take moths to years and is a slow process. Please do not lose patients and provide supportive care as required.
