Dr. My MRI Report says Right frontal focal area of cystic encephalomalacia likely due to previous insult
Pl. Advice if this is serious and what are the implications. I have Tinnitus in right ear with hearing loss. Any relevant advice will be gratefully appreciated. I am suffering from Tinnitus since last 8 months, hearing loss also same period.
I read your question and I understand your concern.
The result of that MRI shows that in the past there has been a lesion to your brain. The cause of injury is not active any more so only its remains are visible and it's difficult to know the origin with certainty (can be past stroke, infection, trauma etc) the most probable is an old stroke/insult. Since it is not active anymore you don't have to do anything about it, it is not the cause for your tinnitus and hearing loss, it is a coincidental finding which has been present there for a long time. If you have risk factors for stroke such as high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, high blood lipids etc you should address them in order to lower the risk of a future stroke.
I hope to have been of help.
