Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
MRI report states I have moderate disc endplate changes and disc height loss at L2-3 with mild endplate changes and disc height loss at L4-5. Mild bilateral neuroforaminal stenosis from early facet hypertrophy and dorsolateral thecal sac indentation at L4-5. Early degenerative disc disease L2-3 and L4-5. Can you tell me in lamens terms what this means?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The MRI findings suggest that there are abnormalities in the lumbar spine. Lumbar spine lies in the lower back. The inter-vertebral discs between L2-L3 and L4-L5 show degenerative changes. At the level L4-L5 there is indentation of structure called thecal sac. Thecal sac shows indentation due to protrusion of the intervertebral disc. There is stenosis or narrowing of the neural foramina. Neural foramina is the canal through which the nerve roots leave the spinal canal. Stenosis can cause compression of the nerve roots and thus symptoms in the area supplied by that particular nerve. I suggest you to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment and management of the condition. Rest and painkillers are the initial mode of treatment. Majority of people respond well to conservative treatment alone.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
