These are degenerative and osteoarthritis changes of the cervical spine associated with aging, known as "spondylosis".

There are osteoarthritis changes in the cervical vertebra and the joints in between them.

The inter-vertebral discs show degenerative changes. The discs between C4-C5 and C5-C6 are bulging, with subsequent narrowing of the nerve root canals. This might result in nerve edema or compression. This might cause radicular pain, which is a neurologic pain radiating along the arms.

Treatment is usually medical, using steroids and anti-inflammatory medications. Surgery is rarely needed and is resorted to severe cases with intolerable pain or muscle weakness. Treatment options should be discussed with a specialized neurologist after clinical examination.

Another accidental finding is enlarged lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx (space behind the nose) , that could be a sign of infection or a congenitally large adenoids.
