Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi - after a recent car accident, I had a MRI on my neck/spine/brain. The brain findings were unexpected and the radiologist is sending me to a neurologist. The conclusion on the report: moderate white matter T2/FLAIR signal abnormality within subcortical and periventricular locations. Differential considerations to include inflammatory areas of gliosis, microvascular ichemic change, and possible demyelination. I m not sure what this means or the reason for the referral since my primary doctors for the car accident were orthopedic. Could you explain so I m better prepared? Thank you.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Maninder's Response
Hi,
It was important that you mention your age as the findings provided by you can be age related as well. Although these might be just normal changes with aging, consultation with a neurologist is important due to the recent history of the accident. But for now, you need not to worry. Just keep your BP checked regularly to keep it from rising with proper treatment if necessary.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Maninder, General & Family Physician
