What Does The Following MRI Report Suggest?

what does the following mean? A few non-specific FLAIR hyperintense foci in the subcortical white matter bilaterally. In addition there is a focus of bloom artifact at the vertex of the brain in the left frontal lobe. These findings are likely post-traumatic in nature. There are no features of diffuse axonal injury.

Hello,

It would have been useful if you had mentioned your age and the reason MRI was done, symptoms.

In itself, that report shows nothing worrying, no active damage of the brain, only some old findings.

Some white matter foci are commonly found in the MRI, the older we get the more likely to be found (which is why age matters in interpreting how significant they are).

As for the blood artifact, it indicates a prior bleed in the brain, the report suggests it was likely due to a prior head injury. There is no other finding no new lesions, no active processes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olsi Taka, Neurologist
