Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
something went wrong with my right knee while running. I did MRI and the result is: - Grade 1 posterior horn of medial and lateral meniscus - minimal knee effusion I am having a bad pain when i move my tibia to left or right, when i bend and relax my knee, and when i go down stairs. Is this considered a tear in the meniscus? Can this heal and get back to pre-injury state? Also, what would be the expected time for something like this to recover? Thanks for your help.
Yes, it appears that there is a meniscal tear as reported by the scan. However, grade 1 tears many times heal itself. Tears less than grade 3, do not need any surgery and heal itself.
You would need rest as it heals with time. The healing may take some time. Maybe weeks or sometimes even more. Rarely surgery may be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
