Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i had an MRI and these were the results. IMPRESSION: 1. Degenerative changes in the cervical spine from C3-4 through C5-6. 2. Minimal canal stenosis at C3-4 and C4-5. 3. Mild to moderate right and mild left foraminal encroachment at C4-5. This corresponds to the right C5 nerve root. Is this typically treated with injections or surgery?
MRI findings can't be taken as the only criteria for surgery. Before we decide the modality of treatment, the following factors are considered like:
1) the severity and duration of symptoms
2) any sensory or motor weakness of upper limbs
3) level of activity you are able to perform with this pathology.
So, my sincere advice to you is please do consult a spine surgeon. A thorough examination in person is very essential to arrive at a conclusion regarding treatment. Initially, medical treatment is tried before jumping into surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi.m,
Anesthesiologist
