What Does The Following MRI Result Indicate?

My MRI results are: right paracentral disc extrusion at L5-S1 resulting in a significant central canal stenosis and posterior displacement of the right S1 nerve. Multifactorial degenerative changes, broad based central disc protrusion and associated central annular tear at L4-L5. Findings efface the thecal sac resulting in a mild degree of central canal stenosis. Disc material closely abuts without displacing the left L5 nerve root. I am scheduled for a discectomy this Friday due to pain in right leg and absent ankle jerk.

Hello

Report suggests degenerative disc disease in lumbar spine.

1.At L5-S1 level,there is right para central disc herniation which is causing significant central canal stenosis.
2.At L4-5 level,there is broad based central disc protrusion and it is associated with central annular tear.It is causing effacement of thecal sac and mild degree of central canal stenosis.

Since you have advance findings in the form of central canal stenosis and its complications,you are rightly advised for disectomy.Now a days,it is a safe process and it is done endoscopically on day care basis..
