Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my father is 66 year old , as per X-ray report of chest patchy opacity with irregular margin at outer half of the right upper zone and patchy consolidation with bronchiectatic art right paracardiac region both the hila are normal in size, density & position Trachea is midline Domes of diaphragm are smoothly outlined. Position is in within normal limits Lateral costo-phrenic angles are clear. Cardiac size appears within normal limits Bony thorax reveals no definite abnormality But Suggested CT scan thorax to characterised the lesion How serious is that???
It is hard to say how serious it is as the report doesn't make a diagnosis, it reveals an abnormality but it is impossible for the X-ray to determine the type, a CT scan is suggested to attempt to do that.
It may be something serious such as a tumour but can't be said by an X-ray alone, a CT scan is needed, at times other tests such as biopsy as well. Hopefully, the tests won't reveal something serious.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
