Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother x-ray report shows homogeneous opacification of the left hemithorax sparing the apex possibility of large left pleural effusion / consolidation to be considered. Fibronodular, nodular changes in right upper zone. My mother has tuberclulosis from last 9 months.
Homogenous opacification due to either pleural effusion or consolidation means normal vasculature of left lung is not seen ,either because of accumulated fluid in pleural space(covering surrounding lungs) or hardening of lung tissue due to disease process. Fibronodular changes are the old healed lesions. Further evaluation has to be done by CT scan chest.Theraupetic pleural tapping has to be done if pleural effusion is present. Culture sensitivity of pleural fluid has to be done to detect multidrug resistant TB as she has TB since 9 months. Also if any immunocompromised status present ,it has to be followed by rigorously with CD4 counts and medications. If it is already detected MDR TB and condition has worsened along with all these new findings, option of surgical lung resection has to be considered.Keep having follow up with your chest physician surgeon. Has she been started on anti-TB drugs?
Wish her good health.
