General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to health care magic
I understand your concern.
Xray report suggests Emphysema which is a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
It may also be caused by prolonged exposure to pollutants present in air along with ageing besides smoking.

If I were your treating doctor ,I recommend,
-Daily dose of bronchodilator like ipratropium bromide or salmetrol in the form of oral puff or drug along with steroids.(prescription drug)
You need to visit chest physician/general physician for this.
-Acute attack denoted by increasing shortness of breath to be managed by oral antibiotics course for 7 days.
-Keep a check on symptoms like increasing shortness of breath, bluish discolouration of lips or nails, swelling of feet, sudden severe chest pain.Report immediately to ER if any of these occur.Heart problems and pneumothorax are complication of emphysema.
-Avoid exposure to second hand smoke, dust, toxic fumes, air pollutant.
-Breathing exercises daily to improve lung function.
-Keep body weight within control by healthy diet.Intake of lots of fruits and vegetables for antioxidants.

Hope this information helps.
Wish him good health.
