What Does The Following Anomaly Scan Report Indicate?

Hello Dr., As per my wife s Anomaly scan at 20th wk, its shows in report THERE IS SINGLE ECHOGENIC FOCUS SEEN IN THE CARDIAC LEFT VENTRICLE Pls guide me on same; what is it?, what could be reason for this? dose it affect baby s development during pregnancy and in his/her life?

Incomplete data like your age, purpose of doing anomaly scan??

Echogenic intracardiac focus is a small bright spot seen in the baby’s heart during routine fetal heart scanning, the left ventricle being the most frequent location.

Having an isolated focus has no impact on health or heart function, unless associated with chromosomal anomalies like Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18) or Down syndrome (Trisomy 21). These chromosomal anomalies are usually associated with an advance maternal age.

If you are age is 35 years or more on your due date, these anomalies can be detected doing triple marker screen test or by amniocentesis.

The results of the triple marker screen test show the likelihood of an infant having a genetic disorders such as chromosomal anomalies.

With a normal triple test and a negative amniocentesis, an isolated echogenic cardiac focus need not cause you any worry.
