What Does The Following Blood Test Report Indicate?
I recently had a blood test and my doctor informed me that my B12 levels and my pancreatic (serum amylase)levels are high. My results for the B12 is 949 ng/L and the results for my pancreatic test is 128 IU/L. My doctor said that these results are slightly high but I would like a second opinion please as I found out that having a high B12 level can suggest cancer. Should I be worried?
Hi! Welcome to HCM! Age and gender are not mentioned. I can understand your problem, do not worry about it as the lab investigation needs to be correlated with your signs and symptoms.
Elevated levels of serum vitamin B12 may be a sign of Hematologic disorders like chronic myelogeneous leukemia, promyelocytic leukemia, polycythemia vera and also the hypereosinophilic syndrome. Associated high serum amyalse reflects the inflammation of pancreas or hepatobiliary system. You should contact your doctor to find out the causes of elevated B12 and pancreatic enzymes by relevant investigations.
