General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The high white cell count and increase in platelets are related to the presence of infections.

Platelets can increase as a reaction to infection. The neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) are also slightly higher than normal and this means that the infection is likely bacterial.

The changes are related to the sore throat and cough. You likely require a course of antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
