What Does The Following Chest X Ray Report Indicate?
I had a cough for two months with no apparent reason. Results of a chest x-ray were: - Lungs clear of acute infiltrates - Mild hyperexpansion of lung fields Imp: No acute pulmonary infiltrates What does the mild hyperexpansion of lung fields mean? I have had radiation for breast cancer.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Absence of infiltrates in lung fields rules out involvement of lungs by any kind of infectious or inflammatory process. Hyper-expansion of the lung fields can occur due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Cough for continuous two months appears to be irritative and not due to lung disorder. I suggest you to take a cough suppressant to suppress cough. Since, lung fields are clear there is nothing to worry but you can consult a pulmonologist for the hyper-expansion of the lung fields.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
