What Does The Following Cytopathology Test Result Indicate?
Hello Dr. dorian oana, my name is shalini kaushik. My mother is 48 years old and there is a lump in the breast of my mother on both sides. Doctor suggested that mammography needs to be done. in the result of which the openion is benign bilateral fibroadenosis (birads 2nd) and cytopathology reports says negative for malignancy or begnign. i want to ask if it not the matter of any problem ...then why after having so many medicines already ...the lump is as it is ...so if medicines are not affecting or lump will be there for lifetime ..can it lead to any serious disease or we dont need to worry if lump is there??
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Your mother has fibroadenoma in both breast. It is benign tumors characterized by an admixture of stromal and epithelial tissue. You also have to confirm it by histopathology. So do not worry, it is not a cancer.
It should be monitored by the surgeon periodically. If it is associated with pain, discharge, increase in size, change in texture/skin of breast, then require surgical excision. Drugs like birth control pill and selective serotonin receptor antagonist will help in resolution. Avoid stress, take healthy diet with fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables and do regular exercise.
Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
