What Does The Following Head MRI Result Show?

Hi, My name is Ewa and I m 36 years old. Recently I have terrible memory problems, and my doctor schedule head MRI. This is what I got from him: FINDINGS: There is no intracranial mass lesion. No midline shift. A single focus of abnormal hyperintense T2 and FLAIR signal is seen within the right frontal subcortical white matter in a distribution of approximately 6 mm. Brainstem, cerebellum, and orbits appear normal. What does it mean? Thank you

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The MRI brain scan in simple language is explained below.
1.There is no intracranial mass lesion.

There is no tumor in the brain.

2. No midline shift.

The pressure inside the brain is normal.

3. A single focus of abnormal hyperintense T2 and FLAIR signal is seen within the right frontal subcortical white matter in a distribution of approximately 6 mm.

In the right frontal region there is a small 6 mm area which is possibly due to decreased focal blood supply or focal demylination in the white matter. A single area described which is 6 mm in diameter is not much of a concern.

4. Brainstem, cerebellum, and orbits appear normal.

The brain stem and smaller brain and eyes are normal.

You should closely observe your symptoms and if they increase further in 6 months time then a repeat MRI might be required depending on the the intensity of symptoms.
