What Does The Following Hematology Test Result Indicate?
Hi! My newborn baby is 14 days old and he just had his hematology result form. He has high results on monocyte (0.14) and MCH (34.4). What does this mean? Here is the complete result of his lab: WBC: 18.20 (5-20) Neutrophils: 0.26 (0.20-0.50) Lymphocyte: 0.55 (0.41-0.71) Monocyte: 0.14 (0-0.03) Eosinophil: 0.04 (0.00-0.07) Basophil: 0.01 (0.00-0.01) RBC: 4.95 (3.80-5.60) Hemoglobin: 17.0 (10.7-17.3) Hematocrit: 0.50 (0.33-0.51) MCV: 98.7 (80-112) MCH: 34.4 (27.0-31.2) MCHC: 34.8 (32-36) RDW: 11.5 (11.5-14.5) Platelet Count: 415 (150-450) MPV: 8.16 (6.90-10.6)
Your baby is absolutely normal. Let me mention the general range of standards which most of the doctors accept and follow :
1) MCH between 0-1 month: 31-37 pg or 34+/_2
2) Monocytes: these are a type of white blood cells. So, they are given as the number of cells it is normally 540-1800/mm3.
Your baby is perfectly alright. Please don't worry. If you are still doubtful, you can confirm the same from your pediatrician at your next visit.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi.m, Anesthesiologist
