What Does The Following Lipid Profile Test Result Indicate?
Hi Dr One month and half ago I did lipid profile test My cholestrole 271 , Ldl 180 , HDL 74 , tri 83 No any other health problem then l start already on diet and training , after 50 days my cholestrole level decrease to 145 Ldl 167 HDL 63 tri going down to 77 Can I continue in my diet and sport before thinking on medications? Can I use omacor once daily? ?Thank you
I read your question and I understand your dilemma.
The levels you want to keep low are total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. They are pretty high in the first test. In the second I think there is some mistake with total cholesterol value because it can't be lower then its component LDL cholesterol. Anyway LDL cholesterol is the most important indicator, it is still high, but the good news is that the "good cholesterol" HDL level is high as well which lowers your risk. Triglicerides are normal in both tests. Considering the marked reduction in 50 days, the good HDL levels and lack of other health problems I would continue with diet and exercise for a couple more months. As for omacor it doesn't affect LDL cholesterol much, only triglicerides which are normal for you. It does increase HDL cholesterol so you can continue to use it since it's a very safe product. I hope to have been of help.
