What Does The Following Liver Profile Test Report Mean?
Hi I am sushma my family has gone through liver profile test my fathers total bilirubin is 2.2 mg/dl , direct bilirubin 0.7 md/dl, and indirect bilirubin is 1.5 mg/dl I d it ok or not plz tell me and it s been 4 months he was undergone bypass surgery
Dear patient Normal bilirubin level in the blood is 1 mg/dl. It is of two types direct and indirect. Direct is produced by liver and indirect by haemolysis means destruction of red blood cells. His direct bilirubin level is normal but indirect is increasing. This may be due to haemolysis as he must be on anticoagulant therapy after major bypass surgery. Like aspirin and warfarin which may lead to haemolysis and hence increased indirect bilirubin. But nothing to worry as this level is compatible with normal life.
