General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The following conclusions can be drawn based on the semen analysis report of your husband you have enclosed.
1. Sperm count of 6 million/ml is less than normal (Normal should be more than 15 million/ml).
2. Sperm motlility of 5% is extremely low (Normal should be more than 60%).
Hence, presently the fertility index seems to to be very low.
Moreover, his VDRL is positive and RPR is reactive.
The venereal disease research laboratory (VDRL) test is designed to assess whether or not disease syphilis is present, which is a sexually transmitted infection (STI), caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum.
Rapid plasma reagin (RPR) test refers to a type of rapid diagnostic test that looks for non-specific antibodies in the blood, which may indicate the presence of syphilis infection.
Presently, he needs to take proper treatment by taking a course of appropriate antibiotics to get rid of syphilis.
Following this, he needs to undergo retesting for syphilis and undertake semen analysis, based on which other things can be concluded.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
