Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what does mild dorsal disc osteophyte formation with small uncovertebral osteophytes. Mild facet degenerative change. There is mild bilateral foraminal encroachment. Does this need surgery now?http://www.healthcaremagic.com/web/images/ui/consultNew.png
As per my clinical experience, the report is not indicative of that grave pathology that one has to be panic for the need of surgery. However, the underlying symptoms are of great concern to co relate with these findings.
If the symptoms are of minor amount, primary concern with: - Cervical collar support - Assisted physiotherapy - Local application of heating pad - Use of analgesic spray or ointment - Analgesic and anti inflammatory medications
If the symptoms are severe, disabling and not responding to conventional measures, surgery after an MRI evaluation is matter of great concern.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
