Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What does my ultrasound of the thyroid results mean? the right hemithyroid measures 5x2.8x2.4 cm and contains a 1.5x0.8 cm well defined heterogeneous nodule revealing central cystic component and focal calcification as well as peripheral vascularity on doppler. It also contains a 7.5x5.7 mm isoechoic nodule . the left hemithyroid measures 4.6x2x2.1 cm and contains a 2.1x1 cm well defined heterogeneous hypoechoic nodule revealing multiple coarse cacifications and peripheral vascularity on dopper. It also contains two hypoechoic nodules measuring 5 mm and 7.8 mm with no calcifications. the isthmus measures 2 mm in thickness. no enlarged laterocervical lymph nodes are seen . Note is made of right carotid artery calcifications.
The ultrasound of thyroid gland shows nodules in bilateral thyroid lobes along with lymph node on one side of neck. I suggest you to get fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of thyroid nodules.
FNAC will sample the cells from thyroid nodule and determine the nature of cells in the lesion. Further management will depend on the type of cells sampled from thyroid nodules.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri
