What Does The Following Transvaginal Ultrasound Report Suggest?

I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound done showing that my uterus is anteverted, measuring 12.5x6.6x5.9 cm, with multiple hypoechoic masses noted throughout the uterus consistent with multiple uterine fibroids. A small amount of fluid appears present in the cervical region. And the endometrium cannot be clearly defined due to the multiple fibroids. There is also a 1.5 cm cyst on the left ovary. Is there any way to avoid surgery?

Hi, I think if you want to avoid surgery, you can try medical management first. Many options are available. If you have heavy bleeding during periods or irregular periods or pain during periods, you may take some hormonal treatment like oral contraceptive pill or GnRH analogues or ulipristal acetate. The main problem is that these medicines can't be given for long term or more than 6 months to 1 year because these have side effects. The chance of recurrence of fibroids are there once you stop the medicines. For period problem, you can take tranexamic acid with mefenamic acid to relieve the pain and bleeding. So, if your age is around 45 or premenopausal, you can try medical management otherwise surgery is a better option. Discuss with your doctor regarding this. Hope it helps.
