What Does The Following Ultrasound Report Indicate?
Dear Doctor, My sp0use aged 60 is suffering from : A- Gall bladder is over distended with two calcui showing posterior acoustic shadows are seen in the lumen , largest of size11 mm. Gall bladder wall is normal in thickness measuring 2.3 mm in present scan. However, no signs of cholecystitis are seen. B- Left kidney contains 4 mm non obstructive calculus is seen in the upper pole aclyx. However, no evidence of hydronephrosis/ focal caliectasis is seen. Kindly suggest and guide. I will write the whole in simple words. Fasting conditions make gall bladder distended. Two stones have an ultrasound shadow visible on their back(proving the fact that they are stones).
Largest stone out of these 2 is 1.1cm. The gall bladder wall is thickened in certain conditions like blockage of the outlet. No signs of infection are noted in gall bladder.
The left kidney has a stone that is not blocking the outflow of urine from that kidney. For kidneys stone, just an increased amount of fluid intake will resolve it slowly or it will slip down and come out.
For gall bladder stones, if there are no symptoms like pain in the right upper abdomen, they do not need to be operated. (That's the rule).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Muhammad Faisal Bacha, Internal Medicine Specialist
