Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Uterus is anteverted, gravid and shows single irregular gestational sac corresponding to gestational age 7 weeks 4 days.Small foetal node is present. No cardiac activity is seen.Trophoblastic reaction is poor.IOS is closed. No SOL is seen in the myometrium. please comment.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The ultrasound pelvis shows presence of a gestational sac which corresponds to gestational age of 7 weeks. However, there is no development of heart and no cardiac activity in the gestational sac. Absence of cardiac activity implies that the pregnancy is non-viable and the condition is called blighted ovum. In addition, other pregnancy associated parameters like trophoblastic reaction are also absent. The pregnancy is non-viable, cannot be continued further and it has to be terminated. The most important reason for blighted ovum is chromosomal anomalies which can lead to non-development of vital body organs like heart. Consult your obstetrician for further work up.
