Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does The Following Ultrasound Report Suggest?
I just finished with a ultra-sound on my thyroid. Results are a significantly large nodule on by left thyroid. I am going to get a biopsy later in the month. Meanwhile my question is: Can this nodule be the cause of hoarseness, significant hair loss and/or fatigue? Also, I was given the option of Biopsy or surgery. I went with Biopsy, first. But the more I think about it, I am wondering if it is better just to plan surgery and getting the left section removed if it is causing the above symptoms.
A thyroid nodule, either benign or malignant in origin, produces hoarseness or voice changes when it is pressing on the vocal cords. Also, due to alterations in thyroid hormone production and action, it may cause other symptoms like fatigue, weight changes and hair loss.
Now since biopsy has been done, you can wait for the histopathological report and then plan for surgery accordingly. Kindly consult your doctor with the report for further evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
General & Family Physician
