Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
These results are highly suggestive of a urinary tract infection(UTI). In a UTI, the urine contains wbc(white blood cells) and frequently rbc(red blood cells).
Hpf stands for high powered field; the lab technician looks at a sample of the urine under the microscope and counts the number of white blood cells and red blood cells within a hpf.
Leukocyte esterase is an enzyme contained in white blood cells. So when the urine has many white blood cells, there should be a large amount of leukocyte esterase.
HGB stands for haemoglobin which is found inside the red blood cells.
I cannot explain why the first urine HGB is moderate and the second urine HGB is negative.
These results go along with the symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Are you experiencing pain with urination, fever, frequent urination?
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
