What Does The Following X Ray Report Mean?

Due to some shortness of breath Dr. recommended 2 xrays. Results of Xrays were There is some opacity at the left lung base, which could indicate atelectasis or pneumonia. Please correlate with signs and symptoms of infection to differentiate. The right lung is clear. The cardiomediastinal silhouette is normal in size. The upper abdomen and osseous structures are unremarkable . Told to get another Xray in 3 months. I don t have pneumonia. I am assuming nothing to worry about because I have to wait 3 months for follow up....or should I be asking for a followup sooner? Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the opacity at left lung base do indicate inflammatory response as pneumonia, pleural effusion, empyema or atelectasis type condition.

* Once the antibiotic therapy is being initiated, in my clinic, I do recommend a first follow up x-ray of the chest after period of 3 weeks and later depending upon its results to figure ot further guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
